Recording sound on location or in a studio, usually in synchronisation with the camera, to enable the highest quality 'real' sound to be recorded at the time of filming
They monitor the quality of the sound recording through headphones and work closely with the Director, Boom Operator and sometimes the Sound Editor, often using multiple microphones.
This is a qoute taken from a website that i found breaking down what it actually means having done it myself and also wanting to specialize in this role and engineering in genral i think once again is part of what Rosie is doing to push me to be what i want having to take the time to research this and see the equipment and learning about the different roles within sound just increases my hunger and passion to do it
I chose this picture because you can see what the sound recordist is doing and how close he is to the action and to the camera operator some people don't really think of being a sound recordist as import well to the casual film watchers or critics we don't really get mentioned or enough credit but to people that study film and are in the industry we all understand that without sound there is no movie
one thing that irritates the life of me is really rubbish headphones when am recording live and even more in post production when am listening to what I have I think as part of the equipment good comfortable headphones are essential when listening to or recoding sound now in a lot of a cases me personally I like to use DR.Dre Beats headphones ironically a lot of sound technician's hate it because they say its only good for listening and not mixing in my case being someone who wants to specialize in sound recording and listing and recording on live set I always make it a priority of mine to always use my own headphones instead of the rubbish ones we get given or that come with the equipment to me having your own preference in headphones is part of being a sound recordist to me it comes down to what you here first then how to present that and show that to the team and directors
Here are some of the artist and known people I look up to

Hans Zimmer
Even though a lot of people know him for what he does in post I love his work live he may not particularly be on set but if ever I needed motivation to chase what I love doing I always reference back to hi because his work is timeless and just as beautiful live than in post
DR.Dre
From a personal experience and in the fact that I love his brand of headphones and listen to his music so much I am always inspired by him and what he produces I was never around for his live work or performances but I wish I was to fully experience what it was like back then living legend in producing music and sound and id love to be at such a level one day
so in closing being a sound recordist is being the life of the film and the energy of the film crew the role is important as it is to record and manage all the sound taken on set and possible adding and recording folly or supervising someone else in the team that does love this role and would like to master every aspect of it
This is the level i hope to get to in terms of sound music and inspiration
